Now that you have chosen your wig or hairstyle, let’s learn some tips and tricks to apply your makeup. First things first, makeup is as good as the products you are using. So, don’t go for some cheap quality makeup kit. Go for high quality products and you will get high quality looks as well.
Start Taking Care of Your Skin
Men tend to neglect their skin a lot. Women don’t. This is the reason why women have much softer, smoother, and younger looking skin than men. So, do you want to look great as a woman? Then you better start taking good care of your skin.
Use a moisturizer on a daily basis. If you have oily skin or are prone to acne, use an oil-free moisturizer. Don’t forget the neck area. Use a good face mask at least once a week to get a glowing and clear complexion. Taking good care of your facial skin will help your makeup go on smoother and last longer as well.
Use a good hand cream or lotion for making your hands soft. A good body lotion would take care of your legs and the rest of your body.
Makeup Brushes
Do you really want to look good? Then make sure to buy a few makeup brushes. Those small and cheap applicators that come with your makeup products…they are quite useless and won’t get you good results. So, here is a list of makeup brushes you will need.
- Lip brush
- Flat eye shadow brush
- Eye shadow blending brush
- Foundation brush
- Concealer brush
- Powder brush
- Blush brush
Makeup brushes are a necessity if you want to look good as a cross-dresser
Before Applying the Makeup
Shave your face using a good double-bladed razor and gel shaving cream. If your skin is oily, use witch hazel or any good astringent to remove the oil from the skin. Your skin should be completely dry before applying the makeup.
Start With Your Eyes
Eyelashes are quite easy to apply. It is a wonderful substitute for mascara, especially for a beginner gal. Wisp lashes with a clear band and good spacing between two lashes are the best kind of eyelashes. You will also need a lash adhesive to apply the lashes.
Apply a cream makeup foundation on to the eyelids. Now, apply your eye shadow color. Match your eye shadow with your dress or jewelry. Choose just one color or two or more colors. To get a dramatic look, use black or any other dark color on the outer crease. Use a lighter color inside. Your eye shadow is done!
Now, let’s move on to the eyeliner. Apply slowly and don’t rush. Once you are done with the eyeliner, apply your fake eye lashes or mascara.
Your eyes are now ready! It is time to move over to the rest of the face.
Covering Your Facial Hair
A visible beard shadow can just ruin your sexy and feminine look. You can use a makeup primer, a red lipstick, and a beard concealer to cover this facial growth.
A makeup primer is applied before applying the concealer. The beard area is rough and makeup doesn’t stick well to this facial part. A makeup will make the area smooth, so when you do apply your makeup, it will stick to it and offer better coverage that lasts longer. Victoria’s Secret and L’Oreal offers some excellent makeup primers.
You will also need a good beard concealer, such as Revlon Color Stay, MAC Full Coverage Foundation and Dermablend Cover Crème. The concealer should match the color of your skin. A shade darker than your skin color offers better coverage for your beard than a lighter shade.
Don’t apply a thick layer of the concealer because it will cake and smudge off. Instead, apply several thin layers. Don’t rub the concealer, just pat it lightly. Use loose powder to set all the layers.
Use the red lipstick on the area now. The red lipstick neutralizes the blue tint of your beard shadow and is an excellent trick for hiding facial hair. Dab the lipstick on the area and then blend it into the concealer with your fingers. You can also apply the red lipstick first and then dab the concealer. The red lipstick gives you the area a sunburned look but is excellent for good coverage of your beard shadow.
A concealer can help cover that beard stubble
Time to Apply the Foundation
Use liquid makeup and apply with your fingers. Start from the forehead and then move down to your nose, cheeks, and chin. You have already covered the eyes, so no need to touch that. Apply the foundation in dots and then blend into the skin.
Apply Loose Powder
Loose translucent powder takes away the shine from your face and also keeps your makeup in place. This is an important step, so don’t neglect it. It will prevent your makeup from running and make it last for many hours. Dot your face with the powder and then use a powder brush to blend it into the foundation.
Use Blush to Feminize Your Cheeks
Correct application of blush can enhance the otherwise flat cheeks of men. To give a fuller look to the cheeks, apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks using a brush. Don’t apply along the bottom of your cheekbones because it will make your face look flatter.
Apply the blush above the jawline on the sides of the face as well. A little bit on the forehead, nose and chin is not at all a bad idea as well.
Makeup for Your Lips
Men tend to have thinner lips compared to women. They also have more space between the upper lip and the base of the nose than woman. You can use a lip plumper containing hyaluronic acid to get fuller lips and to feminize your face. Use bright, glossy shades instead of dark lipstick to make them fuller.
Use a sharp lip liner and apply on the outline of the lips. Now, start filling the area between the outline using a lip liner or lipstick until the full lips are covered.
Don’t forget your eyebrows
Your eyebrows create the frame of your face. So, if you ignore this part of your face, you will be making a huge mistake. The first thing to do is to get your eyebrows professionally shaped. Get it done in such a way that it works for both the man and the woman in you. Once it is in the right shape, it will enhance your look.
Color and shape your brows with an eyebrow pencil. You don’t want the pencil line to be visible. So, just use a brow brush over the eyebrows to blend in the color. Brown suits most of us gals, so this is the best bet to look great.
